Wonderland Editorial Shoot

Hello all. I know it has been a while since I posted something. I have always been interested in editorial and fashion photography, so I, on occasion like to put together concept shoots that require an entire team of people. I hope to do a series of photos based in Wonderland. It has been done several times I know, however, my goal is to do it with a fresh perspective and creative take. I am aiming for end of June, but, will not shoot unless everyone is completely ready and available, so if that means pushing it to July, so be it. As of right now I have been working with my stylist on two looks. A sweet Alice, and the Rabbit. This series will be cast with all female models. I am looking for 2 models. This will be a collaboration of volunteers so no pay is being transferred among anyone involved with this project. I do want to give everyone an experience they will never forget and photos they will keep for a lifetime. Because this will be a high fashion shoot body type is important to ...

Paparazzi/Trash the Dress.... Prom Style!

So I know that Junior and senior prom is approaching and so much work goes into looking your best. I wanted to offer some sort of package to my teenage clients that will document them looking their best! So I came up with two ideas. One is a paparazzi package in which I take portraits before your prom with you, your date and your friends. (up to 12 people) On top of that (dependent on school rules) I will follow you around during and after prom capturing the entire evening on camera. You will have your own paparazzi! The photos will then be put into a a small book for each of your friends to keep forever. The cost would be $100 per person. (minimum 6 people). The second is an editorial shoot. This is done after prom has come and gone and your stuck with this expensive dress you will never wear again. You and up to 5 of your friends will put back on those dresses and travel to an urban area for your very own trash the dress photo shoot. (we won't literally trash the dress, unless y...

How much is too much to pay for a photographer??

With the economy in the condition that it is, I thought it was important to really look at my packaging and pricing structure. I want to make sure that my pricing is appropriate for my IDEAL clients. I also want to know what PREVENTS people from getting photos professionally taken and if there is anything I, as a photographer can do to make the process simpler. I have created a survey with 10 questions geared toward these topics. There is one question people seem to be having trouble with because I wasn't specific with my wording. The question is what does the average 4x6 cost, just so you know I am referring to a professional 4x6, not what you would pay going to Walgreens. If there are any specific points or ideas you would like to address that are not in the survey feel free to post them below! Thank you so much for your input, it is invaluable. Family Portrait Day

I recently decided to try a family portrait day for the Castro valley mothers club. I had never done something like this before but, I thought it would be a great opportunity for me to meet new families and for those who have procrastinated to get family portraits done. This is usually the case with most people. I am guilty also. I have to say it was a success. I got some great pictures and met some wonderful people. I hope to do another one soon. Here are a few shots from the day.

Contest Winners Mathew and Madeline

This is Mathew and Madeline, they were the contest winners for my Etsy contest featuring hats by Bethany's 5. You can check out her shop at http://www.etsy.com/shop/Bethanys5?utm_source=Facebook&utm_medium=App_Seller&utm_content=shops&utm_campaign=fb_seller_shop2 . The shoot was quite an adventure, I have never shot twins before so it was good experience. There mother and I took turns feeding and trying to put them to sleep. We would get one happy then the other would start crying. It was rather comical. Mathew kept making rasberries the entire shoot, it was so funny. Madeline was just straight faced, I think she was in a zone from being over tired. In the end we finally got them both happy again after a nice stroll down my block. Here are my favorites from the shoot.

Photo's from the Pin up event

The pin up event was a success. What a relief. Whew. I was so nervous when my hair and make up person backed out 3 weeks before the event but thank goodness I found another amazing style team just in time. Lianna Moore of N V US Looks in Castro Valley did an amazing job getting all the girls camera ready in a half hour. Arianna Tavares my make up artist trained by Mac pulled off that classic pin up look flawlessly. You can find her at http://ariannamariemakeup.weebly.com/index.html. Lianna who is a drag queen at heart contributed some really awesome props, that totally took the girls back in time. I wanted the experience to really be pampering and fun. I gave each girl a glass of champagne to sip as they were getting dolled up. There was classic 40's music in the background to really set the tone. I had a lot of fun working with my clients and figuring out the right posing that would be true to the genre and flattering to each individual girl. Here are some of my favorites. ...

Photographing Children "Jesse, his father, and grandfather"

This is Sergio Sr. Sergio Jr. and Jesse. Jesse is 6 but, going on 16. Working with children of that age is always difficult. Who wants to sit/stand still while someone takes pictures... BORING! I find that making it into a game, or asking for funny faces makes children more interested. I let him set the pace. You can't force a child to smile, or punish them for not smiling ( I have witnessed that in the past) trust me it doesn't work. In fact it only guarantees that next year when it's family portrait time, you will have a melt down on your hands. Bringing his/her favorite toy is a good idea too. You can offer to take a picture of it for him/her. I let Jesse stand where he wanted, pose like he wanted and posed the family around HIM. Another trick I use is letting the kids take a picture of his parents with my camera (camera strap ON, lol). They love that and it makes them feel more involved. My rule is let the kid be a kid and your bound to get some great shots. Here are a ...
