Photo's from the Pin up event

The pin up event was a success. What a relief. Whew. I was so nervous when my hair and make up person backed out 3 weeks before the event but thank goodness I found another amazing style team just in time. Lianna Moore of N V US Looks in Castro Valley did an amazing job getting all the girls camera ready in a half hour. Arianna Tavares my make up artist trained by Mac pulled off that classic pin up look flawlessly. You can find her at http://ariannamariemakeup.weebly.com/index.html. Lianna who is a drag queen at heart contributed some really awesome props, that totally took the girls back in time. I wanted the experience to really be pampering and fun. I gave each girl a glass of champagne to sip as they were getting dolled up. There was classic 40's music in the background to really set the tone. I had a lot of fun working with my clients and figuring out the right posing that would be true to the genre and flattering to each individual girl. Here are some of my favorites.

Just to show the extent of the make overs included for this event, here are some before and after shots. One is before make up and hair and the other is before make up.

Also in addition to the make overs the girls get a completely photoshopped 8x10 of their favorite pose! Here is an example of picture before and after editing

I hope to have another one at the end of the month. Hope to see you there!!

Photographing Children "Jesse, his father, and grandfather"

This is Sergio Sr. Sergio Jr. and Jesse. Jesse is 6 but, going on 16. Working with children of that age is always difficult. Who wants to sit/stand still while someone takes pictures... BORING! I find that making it into a game, or asking for funny faces makes children more interested. I let him set the pace. You can't force a child to smile, or punish them for not smiling ( I have witnessed that in the past) trust me it doesn't work. In fact it only guarantees that next year when it's family portrait time, you will have a melt down on your hands. Bringing his/her favorite toy is a good idea too. You can offer to take a picture of it for him/her. I let Jesse stand where he wanted, pose like he wanted and posed the family around HIM. Another trick I use is letting the kids take a picture of his parents with my camera (camera strap ON, lol). They love that and it makes them feel more involved. My rule is let the kid be a kid and your bound to get some great shots. Here are a ...

P.s. it doesn't hurt to follow my blog either!

Benley~ 6 months already!!

I have had the remarkable joy of capturing Bentley's life from the womb. He is now 6 months and couldn't be cuter. It is a challenge doing baby pictures. I always end up making some sort of fool out of myself in front of the moms. lol. I thought I would go over a few things for moms thinking of doing this type of session. Here are some pointers for making your session easy. Don't fuss over clothes, you will find the portraits you love the most are the ones that are simple and uncomplicated. Nothing is cuter than a naked baby. Schedule your session after a nap for those happy shots. A good photographer will be flexible about breaks, in fact we prefer it. We want your baby to be happy and comfortable. If you want to have those great straight into the camera shots, try to resist the temptation to call your babies name and try to try and make them laugh, unless the photographer asks you too. This will keep you from getting a bunch of photo where your baby is looking off to ...
