Benley~ 6 months already!!

I have had the remarkable joy of capturing Bentley's life from the womb. He is now 6 months and couldn't be cuter. It is a challenge doing baby pictures. I always end up making some sort of fool out of myself in front of the moms. lol. I thought I would go over a few things for moms thinking of doing this type of session. Here are some pointers for making your session easy. Don't fuss over clothes, you will find the portraits you love the most are the ones that are simple and uncomplicated. Nothing is cuter than a naked baby. Schedule your session after a nap for those happy shots. A good photographer will be flexible about breaks, in fact we prefer it. We want your baby to be happy and comfortable. If you want to have those great straight into the camera shots, try to resist the temptation to call your babies name and try to try and make them laugh, unless the photographer asks you too. This will keep you from getting a bunch of photo where your baby is looking off to ...

Wonderland Editorial Shoot

Hello all. I know it has been a while since I posted something. I have always been interested in editorial and fashion photography, so I, on occasion like to put together concept shoots that require an entire team of people. I hope to do a series of photos based in Wonderland. It has been done several times I know, however, my goal is to do it with a fresh perspective and creative take. I am aiming for end of June, but, will not shoot unless everyone is completely ready and available, so if that means pushing it to July, so be it. As of right now I have been working with my stylist on two looks. A sweet Alice, and the Rabbit. This series will be cast with all female models. I am looking for 2 models. This will be a collaboration of volunteers so no pay is being transferred among anyone involved with this project. I do want to give everyone an experience they will never forget and photos they will keep for a lifetime. Because this will be a high fashion shoot body type is important to ...

The Serna Men!! Generation Portraits

This is Sergio Sr. Sergio Jr. and Jesse. Jesse is 6 but, going on 16. Working with children of that age is always difficult. Who wants to sit/stand still while someone takes pictures... BORING! I find that making it into a game, or asking for funny faces makes children more interested. I let him set the pace. You can't force a child to smile, or punish them for not smiling ( I have witnessed that in the past) trust me it doesn't work. In fact it only guarantees that next year when it's family portrait time, you will have a melt down on your hands. Bringing his/her favorite toy is a good idea too. You can offer to take a picture of it for him/her. I let Jesse stand where he wanted, pose like he wanted and posed the family around HIM. Another trick I use is letting the kids take a picture of his parents with my camera (camera strap ON, lol). They love that and it makes them feel more involved. My rule is let the kid be a kid and your bound to get some great shots. Here...

The Ritter Family

Missy, model in the making...

Missy is a 19 yr old from Vacaville. We had such an adventure taking these photo's. I really wanted to try out some new locations around the Bay Area, and she was up for anything. We started in a beautiful woodsy area in the Oakland Hills, however I struggled with avoiding blotches of light through the trees. I was really hoping for an overcast day day because, the redwoods fill with a wonderful fog. Next we tried some rolling hills that looked great from afar, but, up close were actually filled with prickly weeds that were impossible to sit on. So we took some standing and then moved on to the biggest adventure of all. I had passed this little hidden creek, that is alongside a major road I took to work everyday for a year. I always thought it would be an awesome location for a portrait session. The only problem with the lo cation was how would we get over the cement wall and climb down the slippery rocks with all my equipment while speeding cars brushed us a 45 miles per hour?? l...
