Missy, model in the making...

Missy is a 19 yr old from Vacaville. We had such an adventure taking these photo's. I really wanted to try out some new locations around the Bay Area, and she was up for anything. We started in a beautiful woodsy area in the Oakland Hills, however I struggled with avoiding blotches of light through the trees. I was really hoping for an overcast day day because, the redwoods fill with a wonderful fog.

Next we tried some rolling hills that looked great from afar, but, up close were actually filled with prickly weeds that were impossible to sit on. So we took some standing and then moved on to the biggest adventure of all.

I had passed this little hidden creek, that is alongside a major road I took to work everyday for a year. I always thought it would be an awesome location for a portrait session. The only problem with the location was how would we get over the cement wall and climb down the slippery rocks with all my equipment while speeding cars brushed us a 45 miles per hour?? let's just say I spend my childhood climbing and going places I wasn't supposed to. Missy who is the epitomee of a girly girl was a trooper, and being 5'10" didn't hurt either. Missy was impressed by how " into it" I was, but getting the perfect shot is worth the risk and completely rewarding for me. After seeing the photo's Missy had no regrets either.

We finished the day experimenting with a setting sun, but, not before having to truck up the backside of a hill first. Despite pricked arms, brushes with death, outfit changes in cars, and exhausting hikes we both finished the day feeling excited and satisfied with stunning pictures to prove it.

Modeling isn't as glamorous as it looks, just ask Missy, but, if you are up for taking risks and feeling beautiful call me to book your own private photo shoot.

Photographing Children "Jesse, his father, and grandfather"

This is Sergio Sr. Sergio Jr. and Jesse. Jesse is 6 but, going on 16. Working with children of that age is always difficult. Who wants to sit/stand still while someone takes pictures... BORING! I find that making it into a game, or asking for funny faces makes children more interested. I let him set the pace. You can't force a child to smile, or punish them for not smiling ( I have witnessed that in the past) trust me it doesn't work. In fact it only guarantees that next year when it's family portrait time, you will have a melt down on your hands. Bringing his/her favorite toy is a good idea too. You can offer to take a picture of it for him/her. I let Jesse stand where he wanted, pose like he wanted and posed the family around HIM. Another trick I use is letting the kids take a picture of his parents with my camera (camera strap ON, lol). They love that and it makes them feel more involved. My rule is let the kid be a kid and your bound to get some great shots. Here are a ...

Benley~ 6 months already!!

I have had the remarkable joy of capturing Bentley's life from the womb. He is now 6 months and couldn't be cuter. It is a challenge doing baby pictures. I always end up making some sort of fool out of myself in front of the moms. lol. I thought I would go over a few things for moms thinking of doing this type of session. Here are some pointers for making your session easy. Don't fuss over clothes, you will find the portraits you love the most are the ones that are simple and uncomplicated. Nothing is cuter than a naked baby. Schedule your session after a nap for those happy shots. A good photographer will be flexible about breaks, in fact we prefer it. We want your baby to be happy and comfortable. If you want to have those great straight into the camera shots, try to resist the temptation to call your babies name and try to try and make them laugh, unless the photographer asks you too. This will keep you from getting a bunch of photo where your baby is looking off to ...
